The Apple iPhone 4 was recently crowned the most popular camera on image sharing website Flickr, but the camera included with the fourth generation iPhone doesn’t have much of a lens. To remedy that slight oversight by Apple independent accessory maker Photojojo is here with their new iPhone SLR Mount.

That’s right a SLR lens mount for the iPhone is available, binding you don’t mind spending between $190 and $210. The Photojojo company offers a mount compatible with the current gen. iPhone 4 ($210) and the last gen. iPhone 3 ($190). Both mounting kits will allow you to add a Canon or Nikon SLR lens to your iPhone’s rear-facing camera.

According to Photojojo their mounting solution matched up with a lens from Canon or Nikon will give your phone “powerful depth of field and manual focus”. The company has provided some test shots taken with the iPhone 4′s camera and a Canon/Nikon SLR lens, check out the sample photos below…

The iPhone SLR Mount is made from aluminum and it includes dedicated neck strap loops. Also Photojojo will be including a UV filter with every mount sold, it’s supposed to be specific to the mount itself, Photojojo does make a point of noting no third-party filters are supported with their product. Cooliris Plugin

Cooliris, formerly known as PicLens, is a web browser plugin made by Cooliris that provides interactive full-screen slideshows of online images.

The software places a small icon in the corner of an image thumbnail when the mouse moves over it, which launches into a full-screen photo viewer when clicked, but without giving an option to save any of the pictures shown. More recently, Cooliris also allows viewing of local picture files. The Cooliris plugin is available for Safari, Firefox, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer, and for Windows, Mac OS X (not Google Chrome), Linux, and iPhone.

Rumor: iPhone 4G Will Be Taller Than Predecessors

iPhone repair shop iResQ claims that it has the front panel component of the next iteration of Apple’s iPhone, and it has posted a few photos to demonstrate a couple of ways the handset will differ from its predecessor.

If these pics are legit, then the new iPhone will actually be one-fourth of an inch taller than all of the previous three models. Presumably this is to make room for a new component — or more than one new component.

iResQ also observes that the front panel has a “reflective, mirror-like surface” near the top of the phone, and speculates that this is a relocated proximity sensor. The current iPhone’s proximity sensor is used to detect when you’re holding the phone up to your ear. If you are, it shuts off the screen to save battery life and to avoid blinding you with light.

If the reflective surface is the proximity sensor, then Apple might be planning to use the sensor for other functions as well.

If Apple is planning to launch a new iPhone this year, it will likely be announced at WWDC this June. We’ll have to wait until then to see if these photos are real. Take a look at the photos below, but remember that it’s best to pile this in with the rest of the rumors for now.

iPhone Is Now More Popular than DS and PSP Among Game Developers

Game Developer Research says that Apple is winning the race among handheld game developers: 19 percent write now for the iPhone and iPod touch. That's more than double the amount of Nintendo DS and Sony PSP developers. Other interesting figures:

• Handheld games are now 25 percent of the whole gaming market, up from 12 percent before the iPhone/iPod touch phenomenon.
• During the last three quarters, all handheld game developers are writing for the Apple iPhone and iPod touch.

iPhone Meets Treo

There is soon to be a flood of new mobile phones to hit the street using Google’s new open source Android OS platform. RKS design consultants of southern California have just introduced their entry into this soon-to-be-ubiquitous mobile platform with this “Mimique” design. Touting its ability to be easily customizable, and looking very much like a Treo with an iPhone touch surface, this phone concept deserves some attention, but I can’t help feel that they really failed to find a unique aspect.
