iPhone Is Now More Popular than DS and PSP Among Game Developers

Game Developer Research says that Apple is winning the race among handheld game developers: 19 percent write now for the iPhone and iPod touch. That's more than double the amount of Nintendo DS and Sony PSP developers. Other interesting figures:

• Handheld games are now 25 percent of the whole gaming market, up from 12 percent before the iPhone/iPod touch phenomenon.
• During the last three quarters, all handheld game developers are writing for the Apple iPhone and iPod touch.

Sony to enter ultra-low-cost laptop market

It might be the “race to the bottom” that Sony had feared: the netbook market is getting hot (if that wasn’t obvious), and with major players like Dell & HP jumping in, Sony has little choice but join the fight. Digitimes reports that Foxconn Electronics (a contract manufacturer) is “set to manufacture the notebook for Sony”. While not everyone agrees with the scope of the work to be done by Foxconn (build the whole thing, or only provide the components), there’s little doubt that major Japanese manufacturers are going to enter this market. And I bet that they will overwhelmingly choose Intel’s Atom as their processor of choice.

Sony HST-S100 Goes Small

Sony certainly likes things small - either that or they grow some pretty large strawberries, with the new HST-S100 micro theater system featuring five tiny satellite speakers that are no larger than a standard golf ball. Despite the diminutive size, these will still be able to pump out some decent tunes without sacrificing on precious real estate space in today's ever smaller apartments. You won't find a central receiver with this model though, as the back of the sub will hold an integrated 450W amplifier, a trio of HDMI ports as well as Sony's very own Digital Media Port. If you're living in a cramped apartment and want a decent home theater solution, perhaps the Sony HST-S100 might fit your needs this July for $700 thereabouts.
